Professor Daniel Hernández-Lobato, Associate Professor at the Escuela Politécnica Superior (EPS) of Universidad Autónoma de Madrid (UAM) and member of ELLIS Madrid, together with Professor Angela Fernández Pascual, is offering a fully funded PhD position within the research project Human-Aware and Efficient Machine Learning (HEMLA).
The HEMLA project aims to advance the state of the art in machine learning by developing methods that are efficient, trustworthy, interpretable and aligned with human preferences. The successful candidate will join the Machine Learning Group (GAA) at UAM and contribute to research in areas including:
- Explainable Artificial Intelligence (XAI)
- Bayesian deep learning and uncertainty quantification
- Scalable kernel methods
- Functional data analysis
- Applications in healthcare
- Renewable energy forecasting
Candidate profile
The position is aimed at highly motivated candidates with:
- A Master’s degree or equivalent qualification in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Physics, Telecommunications Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong programming skills, preferably in Python and PyTorch.
- A solid background in machine learning, optimisation, probability or statistics.
- Good written and spoken English.
- A strong interest in conducting cutting-edge research and publishing in leading international conferences and journals.
