IMHOTEP Workshop brings together AI and biomedical research at UC3M

On 22–23 October 2026, Universidad Carlos III de Madrid will host the first IMHOTEP Workshop: Intelligent Methods for Health Outcomes, Translation, Explainability, and Prediction, at the Puerta de Toledo Campus in Madrid.

The workshop will bring together researchers working at the intersection of machine learning, deep learning and biomedicine, providing a space to present recent work, discuss open challenges and foster new collaborations across disciplines.

The programme will start on Thursday afternoon with a series of short two-minute lightning presentations, followed by a poster session where participants will have the opportunity to present and discuss their research in an informal setting.

On Friday morning, the workshop will feature two invited talks. Dr. Albert Belenguer Llorens (ETH Zurich) will present “What can AI see in a Petri dish? From colonies to antibiotic resistance”, exploring how artificial intelligence can contribute to the analysis of microbiological data and antibiotic resistance. Dr. Anna Foix Romero (University of Cambridge) will give the talk “Geometrically Invariant Representation Learning for Biological Shape Quantification”, focusing on representation learning methods for the quantitative analysis of biological shapes.

The programme will continue with sessions devoted to deep learning for biomedical applications, including hands-on experimentation with cardiology data led by Irene Mancebo and Long Lin.

IMHOTEP aims to create a meeting point for researchers from AI and the biomedical sciences, encouraging the exchange of ideas and the development of new interdisciplinary collaborations. The workshop is sponsored by the ELLIS Unit Madrid, supporting its mission to foster excellence in artificial intelligence research and strengthen connections across the local and international research community.

Registration is free, and presenting a poster is optional for participants wishing to attend.
