We are delighted to share that María Fernanda Alcalá-Durand, PhD Scholar at the ELLIS Unit Madrid, took part in the ELLIS Doctoral Symposium (EDS) 2026, held in Lisbon, Portugal, from 27–30 July. Organised by the ELLIS Unit Lisbon, this year’s symposium focused on Trustworthy AI, bringing together PhD students, researchers and leading experts from across Europe to discuss the latest advances in artificial intelligence and the development of AI systems that are reliable, safe and adaptable.
The symposium offered an excellent opportunity for early-career researchers to present their work, exchange ideas and build collaborations through keynote talks, panel discussions, poster sessions and networking activities. María Fernanda presented her research, Gaze-Based Screening for Parkinson’s Disease for Early Clinical Detection in Prodromal Cohorts, which received an Honourable Mention in recognition of its quality and impact.
